I want to talk about Thylane Loubry Blondeau. Just a quick summary of my opinion on the whole controversy about her Vogue shoot and other modeling jobs. As far as the recent Vogue Paris spread goes, I definitely don’t think the intention was to sexualize children. Maybe irony, or novelty. Or maybe to make fun of the fashion industry. Runway models are, after all, sometimes 14 years old and somehow pass for a 20 year old. Lindsey Wixon for example. She started around 14/15 years old, and she has walked for the likes of McQueen and Versace. Obviously using a 10 year old is a bit over-the-top, but it gets your attention and gets the point across, whatever it may be. I’m sure it was inevitable that people would be outraged by the photos, but I also think it is in part the viewers fault for the child-porn feeling. I know that as soon as I saw the photos, I certainly didn’t think they were suggestive. Mature, maybe, but it didn’t really shout “SEX” to me. People are making comments about her pouty lips and “come-hither stare”. So sue her for having features that will make her a gorgeous teenager and adult! To me, her expression looks sort of bored; the makeup makes it appear seductive. The other photos I’ve seen of her, such as with her thumb hooked into her jeans and some skin showing, and the one where she’s wearing a feather headdress and is nude, although not blatantly naked, those are all another story. I don’t quite understand them so I won’t touch upon that. But otherwise, I think the Vogue spread is done tastefully enough for “sexualizing” a young girl, and you know what, good for her! Thylane Loubry Blondeau is a name we should all remember because I think she could be a supermodel some day. That’s really all I had to say.
